Summer Getaway (Tibet Travel & Around ) Deals From Chengdu

The Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) of China is a high, dry, windswept plateau. Thrust up like a giant dinner plate by the major tectonic forces of the Indian Subcontinent crashing into the Eurasian Plate, this plateau along with the Himalayan Mountains is the product of two plates colliding and growing ever skyward. It stands over three miles above sea level surrounded by the highest mountains in the world to the south, and to the north stretch the great Eurasian plains and on into the Taklimakan Desert.

This unique landscape has allowed a distinct culture to develop in far western China. The world over, Tibetan Buddhism is a considered a mystical and mysterious sect of Buddhism and is synonymous with this place. In Tibet the roots of this particular brand of Buddhism actually lie in a more ancient religion called Bon. In fact, many still consider Bon their major religion, and is seen practiced through Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan. The heart of this world beats in Lhasa, the capitol of the TAR. Here, you will find many holy sites pilgrims from all over the world travel to for a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Tibet Permit

Tibet Travel Permit is a must for foreigners traveling to Tibet. You need to send a copy of your passport and visa (no need for originals) to your Tibet travel agency who will then help you apply for the Tibet travel permit. It’s suggested to submit the permit application a month ahead of time. Once submitted, the agency will usually obtain your Tibet travel permit around 5-7 days before the trip. The original permit will be delivered to your last city in China. If you are taking a train, the permit will be sent by email and you will be able to ride on the train to Lhasa with the copies(except for Chongqing, Lanzhou, Xi’an).

High Altitude Sickness

Once landed in Lhasa, 75% of the tourists will experience mild altitude sickness, the symptoms includes headache, fatigue, nausea etc. Normally you will feel better after one or two days’ stay in Lhasa(3650m) or other place with lower altitude.

The best way to avoid altitude sickness is to ascend slowly. Acclimatizing for a few days in Lhasa is recommended before proceeding to a higher altitude. Otherwise, drink more water, avoid alcohol and avoid strenuous activities in the beginning.

Pills like Diamox can speed up part of the acclimatization process, and help to relieve the symptoms. The other choice is local medicine such as hongjingtian pills/liquid etc. These medicine is usually required to take days before, check with your doctor for more details, especially if you have allergies to certain items.
