Unfortunately PU letters seems to be only issued to hi-management of big companies (read: Forbes 500), diplomatic staff, very special skilled people or when you’re on a spouse visa. We don’t expect this to be changing soon, sigh!

That’s all fine, but what about new work permits? Why do they not hand out new work permit at the moment? I ran through the application process for a new job in Shanghai in October 2020 and got the position. Now in January 2021 I have all the needed documents but just got the answer from my company in Shanghai, that government is not giving new work permits or PU letters to “new” foreigners. Is this a result of the corona situation? Or what reason can this have? How long will this status be active? I already prepared my leave from Germany. Including termination of apartment etc. I also prepared myself for the quarantine and sold all my belongings here. This is a very uncomfortable situation. Would be nice to get some feedback. Cheers
