A Tale of Two Cities

Artist from both Chengdu and Frankfurt showcase their work in U37 Creative Park. Running from the April 27th – May 30th. The exhibition will start off with a launch party at 7.00pm on Saturday 27th.

 From Frankfurt to Chengdu, a collection of artwork that conceptualises the comparison of the two cities. This exhibition takes an in-depth look at the impact of the best and worst times of each city. The exhibition celebrates the unity that art gives the people of the world and how it can make a difference.

Exhibition concept

A Tale of Two Cities are two scenes under a big historical background, in the same era. However, “Two Cities” are extremely divergent because of different geographical-political patterns. Charles Dickens, is to reveal the impact of sense of separation, through the narration of literature, bringing different characters in between the Two Cities . In other words, A Tale of Two Cities is a chemical effect that was implanted in the back- ground of the great era.

Every era is the “best and the worst of times”. The Chemical Effects implanted by the ‘Tale of Two Cities’ have never been absent in any era, and now it is. The world has not become closer and people aren’t more familiar with each other because of “network & information era”; the separation of the internet and the “faking” of the information have deepened the gap between the regions, and the sense of separation became more intricate and subtle.

This is where art can make a difference. Art does not show people what to do, yet engaging with one work of art can connect people to their senses, body, and mind. It can make the us felt . And this felt feeling may spur thinking, engagement, and even action.

Should we insert the chemical effect of Two Cities in the form of artist’s expressions to interpret the difference between the two cities, moreover, to measure the “ distance ” of the contemporary Two Cities ?
