What is the meaning of fair trade?

Fair trade is more than just giving a fair salary to producers – it’s about rethinking business models and how we consume in a new era; it is about not being purely profit driven and having transparent cooperative relationships based on dialogue and respect. Fair Trade can fundamentally improve producers lives through fair and safe trade environments.

Ten Principles of Fair Trade

“Trade Not Aid” is not a slogan any more

From June 16th to August 16th, together with lifestyle brand San Shi Liu Ji under Zhongshuge, Hoowgood will bring a new lifestyle revolution to Chengdu focusing on the “Fair Trade” spirit and the “Trade Not Aid” concept.

For the next two months, they will bring fair trade products and invite associative guests in the field to Chengdu. By displaying their goods and explaining why they’re special and meaningful, they will show how the products you purchase are more than just things to own, but ways to empower and enable others to have a better life.

Hoowgood will use their platform to showcase high quality fair-trade products. These will be sourced from different places in China and further afield; Nepal, Indian and Africa. Each will come with it’s own story.

 Organic apparel series

The brand’s original design was created through collaborating with Creative Handicrafts, a fair-trade organization in India. Each product is made from Fairtrade Labelling Organization’s international organic raw cotton combined with traditional handicrafts, with 1% price for each purchase donated to the earth (1% For The Planet).

 Eco-fabric series

This series are made by the ACP, a fair and non-profit trade organization in Nepal, by combining modern design and traditional craftsmanship. They provide technical guidance on design, marketing and management to low-income producers. This institution provides job opportunities for socially marginalized men and women and has sustainable development and stable income.

 Family life series

This series is handcrafted by the Indian fair-trade organization. Moradabad in India is a city with 700,000 people, of which more than half participate in the trade of metal handicrafts, but craftsmen have long had a low income and had no way but to borrow loans from exporters to complete the products. The craftsmen receive higher salaries and their children receive free education through fair trade organizations.

 

Accessory and ornament series

This series is created and handcrafted by the women in poverty-stricken mountainous areas in Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province, and provides local women with a stable source of income.

 

Organic food series

Local coffee beans come from African Rwanda Cooperatives, which was certified by Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International in 2003.

The honey sold on the site is alpine honey sold by Grandmother Wang of Caopo Township, Wenchuan County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province.

杨士翔 Vinka Yang

founder of TWINE Jianguozi

 

He graduated from the Architecture Department of Tamkang university. He took a fancy to a fair trader and eco-friendly design because of his work in Shanghai. After the foundation of Jianguozi, he began to further understand fair trade because of the use of wire came from a fair trade source. Vinka persists on the combination of original local design and fair trade raw material production, and helps the disadvantaged groups in backward countries practically at the same time of production. Take products as a carrier and share traditional technology and religious culture of different cultures, and promote the development of fair trade. He will bring about the founding process of Jianguozi and the design inspiration and product concept they found in the travel of fair trade.

Rachel, 72 years old, is well known by many people for more reports in Chengdu. Rachel touched the living conditions of national minorities in poor areas due to her early medical support in Tibet, and she realized that if the national minorities wanted to change their economic quandary, they must open the local market. Because of some kind of; impulse and affect, Rachel began to do her best to help these minority producers to sell the products. In the process, she became more and more powered. In 2013, he registered “Blue Sheep” in Sichuan. At present, the goal of Bluesheep is: creating working opportunities for marginal population, help craftsmen to exploit the market, promote fair trade and protect culture.

On June 16th (2-4pm), we will invite Yang Shixiang Vinka Yang, the founder of TWINE Jianguozi—— in Taiwan, to perform the theme sharing meeting——”practice fair trade with culture” in the six episode of Zhong Shusan’s food.
