How to Improve your Street photography
Photos are the way we preserve our memories, the people we meet and the places we have been. A photo of a city, is a tiny time stamp and a small cultural preservation of the place we live at that exact time – and capturing it is an art. This month’s photography workshop will focus on street photography, led by Jake Homovich, a talented street photographer from New York. He will lead an afternoon of guerrilla photography – Break The Rules.
About the Workshop
This workshop will concentrate on ‘getting the picture’. We don’t want to get too bogged down with technicalities (although we do cover the essential basics skills such as camera settings, focusing, exposure, ect). Instead this will make the most of our time together by focusing on five key areas:
- Building your confidence as a street photography, conquering your fear of shooting on the streets
- Developing your powers of observation so that you ‘see’ the opportunity
- Helping you understand the principles of light and composition in travel or street photography
- Coaching you in the essential shooting techniques to ensure that you capture ‘the moment’
- Enabling you to take stylish and meaningful images which go beyond the often-seen ‘stranger in a street’ picture
About Jake Homovich
Jake’s images have a bold way of capturing the overlooked aspects of culture and life and accentuating them through black-and-white photography to become the profound. He glorifies and transfigures the close-up and unseen moments that many photographers pass by into individual statements of purpose, thus stamping his own mark, style, and definite individuality in the photographic community. Using a wide angle lens, his images portray the intimate experience between him and his subjects and his surrounding, which is one of the key aspect of his work. His keen awareness of shadow, line and movement help him curate a distinct view of China that sets him apart from other photographers.
