The Chengdu Women in Business Network and the British Chamber of Commerce Southwest China have the pleasure of inviting you to celebrate 2019 International Women’s Day at the elegant Niccolo Chengdu, IN CELEBRATION of the Journey Towards Equality & the Women Who Drive it. Everyone is welcome.

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a month-long call to action for gender equality. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.
To mark the beginning of this month of action, three expert panellist’s, who each advocate for a different demographic of women in their professional lives, will discuss the state of equality in the rapidly developing world and how we can set our goals for 2019, to accelerate gender parity.
Join us on the evening of the Wednesday 13th March 2019, to meet and connect with like-minded people and enjoy lively discussion. There will be followed by drinks, photos, activities and a celebration of the
women who inspire us.
The panel
Rosie Chawla
Representing grassroots activists in developing countries
Rosie Chawla has a master degree in Conflict Resolution & Negotiations from Columbia University, a business post-graduate certification from Wharton Business School and a bachelor degree in Finance from Temple University. She has experience working in Greece with Syrian Refugees, in Myanmar doing conflict resolution and was awarded a fellowship from UN consultative agency to go to Palestine and meet twenty NGO’s working on the conflict between Palestine & Israel. Her latest work has been with the Rotary Club of Chengdu she supported an NGO that stops child marriages. Currently, her role in China is of a Global Projects Advisor in which she develops educational projects on global issues for educators, youth and community. Her areas of expertise are Human Trafficking, Gender, Human Rights, Conflict resolution and hopes to share her knowledge with participants.
Ms Karen Surmon
Trade Commissioner/ Commercial Consul
Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade)
Consulate-General, Shanghai
Karen joined the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) in 2013, and has been based in Shanghai as Trade and Invetment Commissioner since August 2014. She has held national industry lead roles in Infrastructure, Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation, and is currently the national lead for the Food, Beverage & Consumer team. She has over 12 years experience living and working in China and Singapore, and is fluent in Mandarin.
Yi Zhang 张毅
Representing Chinese professional women
Yi Zhang is a partner of the prestigious Zhonglun Law Firm, with over 20 years working experience in her field. She is mainly engaged in intellectual property, dispute resolution and foreign-related legal matters. Yi Zhang also serves as a mentor for young Chinese women, to help them achieve their professional goals, and is a board member on the Executive Committee of the British Chamber of Commerce South West China.
After the panel discussion, there will be the chance to connect with like-minded people and set out goals for 2019, to accelerate gender parity and really celebrate the women that inspire us.

About The Chengdu Women in Business Network
The Chengdu Women in Business Network was founded in the Spring of 2017 by female business owners as a response to the growing need for a female-centred professional platform – which seeks to connect, empower and educate. The network is focused on supporting female leaders in business, creative industries, and public service through sharing industry know-how and resources, workshops, and professional development content. The community now contains almost 500 international and local female entrepreneurs, business owners, civil servants, and professionals from a diverse range of industries. The Chengdu Women in Business Network is a not-for-profit organization, pending approval of registration from the PRC.
