Li County of West Sichuan is a hidden gem that has always been favored by Trek n Track. The snow mountains and meadows, the ever bight sunshine, the ruins of ancient times, as well as the friendly Qiang people, attract us to go back again and again. On the second day of the second month of the Chinese calendar, it is time for Qiang people to worship the god of nature and pray for fortune and peace in the coming year. And we will take this chance to take you to spend and celebrate the festival with the locals and do some leisure hikes. Do not just travel. Travel like a local.
“Guai Ru” is an autograph interpreter from Qiang language. “Guai” means a sacrifice, and “Ru” refers to the scale and variety of the offerings. Later, “Guai Ru” referred to Mountain Worship Festival, which is an important traditional festival for Qiang people to worship the god of nature and pray for luck and peace in the coming year. The Guai Ru Festival is held annually on the second day of the second month of the lunar calendar in Puxi Township of Li County.
Xiuxi Qiang Village is located in Li County, on a mountain with an altitude of 2,500 m. The clouds are so low here that they seem to be within reach, thus, it has another name — The Stockade On the Clouds. It is an area inhabited only by Qiang people, and at present, there are only less than 100 families still living there now, and there is little contact with the outside world.
