“Sir, where is this place?”: 8.7832° S, 34.5085° E (Africa): Series 02 is the second edition of the African series of exhibitions curated by Megan Mace, showcasing the works of contemporary artists and fashion designers from Southern Africa. This exhibition is co-organized by Chengdu Jinjiang District Contemporary Art Center (DCAC), and hosted by Tazishan Art Center. This exhibition is dedicated to the artistic, and cultural exchanges between China, and Africa building an artistic bridge for common development. The exhibition showcases more than 60 artworks from Artist Proof Studio in Johannesburg, South Africa, as well as fashion collections from renowned designers Gugu Peteni, Ntando Ngwenya and Thabo Makhetha.

We are very pleased to invite artists Phillipah Rumano and Tshegofatso Phore to participate in a three-week artist residency program from the 18th to the 31st of August 2024. This residency program will provide the artists with a unique opportunity to come to Chengdu, China, where they will engage in artistic exchanges with local artists and communities, create new works and establish meaningful connections between Africa and China.We are also collaborating with PAO, a new-age soda brand inspired by mixology and made exclusively with Chinese and Asian ingredients, to create a bespoke series of artworks inspired by the brand’s unique DNA.

With the strong support of Chengdu Jinjiang District Contemporary Art Center (DCAC), this exhibition will launch the Artist in residency Program on August 18th. The exhibition will officially open at 3 pm on August 31st. We invite you to the Tazishan Art Center for the exhibition “Master, where is this place?: 8.7832° S, 34.5085° E (Africa)” .
