Vienna–Berlin Philharmonic Chengdu Concert
When musicians from the Vienna Philharmonic and Berlin Philharmonic decide to “have fun together”, the result is Philharmonix – The Vienna Berlin Music Club: a seven-member all-star ensemble that turns classical music into a riot of styles. On 12 December 2025, 19:30, Philharmonix will land at the Chengdu City Concert Hall · Concert Hall, bringing Chengdu a one-night-only cocktail of sounds: about 30% classical, 20% jazz, 15% folk, 15% pop, 15% Latin and 5% pure surprise.
Philharmonix brings together three Vienna Philharmonic players—double bassist Ödön Rácz, clarinettist Daniel Ottensamer and violist Thilo Fechner—with two Berlin Philharmonic stars, violinist Noah Bendix-Balgley and cellist Stephan Koncz. Completing the lineup are versatile pianist Christoph Traxler and violinist-singer Sebastian Gürtler, a former concertmaster of the Vienna Volksoper.
Rather than playing standard symphonic repertoire, Philharmonix specialises in dazzling arrangements written from within the group. They reimagine everything they love—from Mozart and Dvořák to Piazzolla tangos and Eastern European folk tunes—mixing brilliant virtuosity with a playful sense of theatre. Their albums on Deutsche Grammophon, The Vienna Berlin Music Club Vol. I–III, and an OPUS KLASSIK award in 2018 have made them one of Europe’s most talked-about crossover ensembles.
