Our guest, Harry Chen, studied Engineering Mechanics at Tsinghua University before receiving a full scholarship to the Film Program at Temple University in the United States.Leaving behind the career of an engineer, he picked up a camera and became a documentary and experimental filmmaker.Over the past two decades, his films have been selected by 100+ international film festivals and he has been invited to speak at Stanford University, Northwestern University, Université Paris Cité (formerly Paris Diderot University), Lund University, and other institutions around the world.This evening, we won’t be talking about filmmaking techniques.Instead, we’ll explore questions like:• What does it mean to capture reality?• Why do some people dedicate their lives to documenting the real world?• Does documentary filmmaking change the world—or the person behind the camera?• If we had the chance to choose again, would we follow a different path?This is not a traditional lecture.We keep our events small and conversation-based, creating a space where every participant can engage directly with the guest instead of simply listening from the audience.
