The walking street off Shenxianshu South Street has several local restaurants, bars and coffeehouses hidden behind its trees, and we walked past Tiziano without noticing it at first. Tiziano is a cosy space that had been open about a month when we dropped in. The kitchen is clean and organized looking with a bottom level that prepares the restaurant food and an upper level where their in house European-style desserts are made.
The mushroom salad was cooked mushrooms and onions that had been tossed with a balsamic vinaigrette over lettuce and arugula. The menu says they use De Cecco pasta, so we asked for the linguine Bolognese and got a pile of pasta strips well sauced with a nice meaty Bolognese that had been cooked down with bits of carrot and onion in a sauce that was on the mild side, but we made good use of the salt and pepper shakers on the table. We confirmed they use real basil on the margarita pizza (some places are still using spinach) before ordering it. The pizza that came was thin crusted and admirably blistered on the bottom, with a mild sweetish sauce and three leaves of real basil on top. The crust was very good and there was olive oil and vinegar on the table for dipping.
We ordered a currant Bavarian for dessert that had three gorgeous gilded sour currants over a sweet pink glazed cream that had a raspberry filling over a cake base. It was a pretty if odd flavour combination. The desserts are usually just under 40RMB each. The server said the chef had spent several years in Singapore learning western food. We went with Italian food on this visit but there were other interesting dishes on the menu, like a few styles of fish and chips all of which are less than 50RMB per order and which the server said use fresh cut chips. There is a chili crab pasta too that looked interesting. The service was a bit helicopter style but we were the only customers for most of our time in there. The bill should be a bit under 100RMB per person.
