About People’s Park
People’s Park (人民公园), originally known as Shaocheng Park (少城公园), was established in 1911 and is the oldest public park in Chengdu. Located in the heart of the city near Tianfu Square, it covers more than 112,000 square metres, making it the largest public green space in downtown Chengdu.
The park is one of the best places to experience everyday life in Chengdu. Visitors can stroll through peaceful gardens, relax beside the lake, rent a paddle boat or enjoy a traditional cup of tea at the historic Heming Teahouse (鹤鸣茶馆), one of the city’s oldest and most famous teahouses.
Throughout the day, you’ll see locals dancing, singing, practising tai chi, writing calligraphy with water, playing chess and mahjong, or simply spending time with friends and family. The park is also home to the Railway Protection Movement Monument, which commemorates an important event in modern Chinese history.
