Last year’s AmCham Independence Day Celebration:
AmCham is proud to have hosted it’s 14th American Independence Day Celebration, marking the 242nd year of the United States. The largest and most influential event of its kind in Southwest China, this year’s 2018 Independence Day Celebration with more than 1,3000 people attended.
The event kicked off with two pieces of beautiful jazz from Tzu-i Chuang, wife of Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General in Chengdu Mr. Jim Mullinax, and Mrs. Sisi, wife of AmCham Southwest Chairman Benjamin Wang. Then, Consul General Mullinax of the United States Consulate in Chengdu, opened as the first speaker of the evening, expressing thanks to AmCham’s concerted efforts and long-lasting dedication. He was followed by Benjamin Wang, the Chairman of AmCham Southwest, who warmly welcomed all guests and thanked the sponsors for their generous support. Jessie Toh, Director and President from Griffin International Academy briefly introduced their school and wished everyone a wonderful night.
A myriad of performances entertained guests, such as a live sand painting depicting beautiful scenery and landscapes, dynamic modern dances embodying the latest trends and vitality, Sichuan face-changing and dance routines interpreting the classic charm of China.
AmCham Southwest Officer Charles Cheung introduced this AmCham’s dedication to charity in cooperation with Hopeful Hearts and the Chengdu Rotary Club, for which this funds raised at this year’s event were to be used.
The climax of the evening came when three rounds of lucky draws were announced for adults and one round for children, with prizes valued more than RMB 200,000. The gifts included aerial photography, sports bracelets, round-trip flight tickets from Chengdu to the United States, cosmetics, electric toothbrushes, spa voucher, medical check-up packages, dozens of five-star hotel room and meal vouchers, and more.
The 2018 American Independence Day yielded great success. It was more than just an Independence Day celebration, but a wonderful atmosphere for friends from every walk of life to come together and enjoy this joyous time. Moving forward, AmCham Southwest’s team will continue to make persistent efforts to deliver quality opportunities for it members to engage in meaningful and positive activities in Southwest China while contributing to the community at large and encouraging a peaceful economic relationship between the US and China.
