March 23: Spittoon Poetry Reading Night
Spittoon Poetry Reading Night
Traverse the universe via verse. Spittoon Poetry Night encompasses new poetry and poetry in translation. Poets from all walks of life have appeared on the Spittoon stage: there’s something for everyone! Languages range from English to Chinese to Tibetan to Spanish and beyond, and nothing goes unspoken: lost love, found love, life’s beauties and terrors, reflections on lunches of grease, pork and onions. If rhythm and rhyme is what gets you out of bed in the morning, come to the Flip Flop Hostel rooftop Saturday, March 23rd!
How to sign up
Want to read? Sign up for a slot with Bookworm Writing Group admin Annie by emailing bookwormwritinggroup@gmail.com. We prioritise original work, all languages welcome. Sign-ups can be made on the night, time allowing.
What is Spittoon?
Spittoon started four years ago in Beijing as an informal event where writers could get on stage and share their work with a wider audience. Spittoon Fiction Nights and Spittoon Poetry Nights have been held every month in Beijing for the past four years, and in November 2016, the first issue of the Spittoon Literary Magazine was published. Poetry in translation is another feature of Spittoon’s events and magazine, and languages used range from Chinese to English, Spanish, Farsi, and beyond. Spittoon came to Chengdu two years ago with the help of the Bookworm Creative Writing Group.
