March 22:
Vientiane, Laos
On March 22, Sichuan Airlines will launch a direct route from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport to Vientiane, with four round trips weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The outbound flight has a scheduled duration of 2 hours and 40 minutes.
In December 2025, Qingdao Airlines introduced the first weekly nonstop flight from Chengdu to Vientiane. According to ticketing systems, however, the carrier will suspend this route following the seasonal schedule adjustment, leaving Sichuan Airlines as the only operator on this route.
March 26:
Brussels, Belgium
From March 26, Air China will operate a new direct flight from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport to Brussels, capital of Belgium. Using Airbus A330-300 aircraft, the route will run three round trips weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Previously, travelers from Chengdu to Brussels had to connect via a third city, with the quickest journey taking more than 17 hours. The new nonstop service will cut travel time between the two cities to under 11 hours.
International Flight Adjustments
Fuel Surcharges Increased on International Flights
Airlines have recently announced higher fuel surcharges on international flights. Fares have generally risen by more than 50%, and in some cases doubled. Notably, surcharges on direct flights from Chengdu to Phuket and Phnom Penh have increased from RMB 0 to RMB 90 and RMB 180 respectively.
