A personal account, written by Chengdu-Expat’s very own founder Dieter:
• “Let’s not ignore the elephant in the room: I have got unusually large, beautiful blue eyes (lol – yes, I’m biased), and taking care of the Chengdu-Expat platform means a lot of screen time – so I do occasionally experience dryness and irritation.
• After weeks of squinting through screen time and rubbing at gritty-feeling lids, I decided my “precious peepers” (as my mom calls them) needed help, and so visited Chengdu AIDI Eye Hospital – and it did not disappoint.
My Visit: Smooth from Start to Finish
Booking was a breeze. I messaged Carol, a coordinator, via WeChat, and she asked about my symptoms (dryness, occasional blurriness) to pair me with a specialist. No confusing menu on the phone, or endless forms—just a friendly chat to get things rolling.
The check-in was quick too. The reception team spoke English, explained costs upfront, and had me registered in 5 minutes. No waiting in chaotic lines or stressing over hidden fees—refreshing.
My Visit: Consultation
First up: Preliminary checks. They tested my vision, checked my eye pressure, and did a quick auto-refraction scan. The techs were gentle, even when I flinched a little. They walked me through each step, which helped calm my nerves.
Then came the consultation. The doctor used a slit-lamp to examine my eyes up close, but instead of just listing issues, they asked about my habits: How much screen time? Do I blink enough? (Who knew!?). Am I drinking enough (hot!) water? When they said my dryness was mild, they didn’t push expensive meds. Instead, they suggested eye drops & and eye gel (around 100RMB for both) and better hydration, plus offered a therapeutic treatment if I wanted to try it. No upselling—just honesty.
I went for the dry eye atomization therapy—a soothing mist that hydrates the eyes. It felt like a spa day for my lids: cool, gentle, and surprisingly relaxing. By the end, my eyes felt less gritty and way more comfortable.
The next week, I stuck to the doctor’s plan: using lubricating drops three times a day for dryness, and putting the cooling gel in my eyes each night before sleeping. By the first week’s end, dryness and occasional blurriness had eased. After two weeks of consistent care, my eyes felt bright and clear again. Such a relief to tackle daily tasks without discomfort!
What Makes AIDI Different?
It’s the little touches: staff remembering my name, doctors taking time to explain things, and never making me feel rushed. They’ve got fancy tech (OCT scans, Optos imaging) if you need it, but it never feels overwhelming.
Plus, AIDI gives back: they’ve done over 3,000 charitable cataract surgeries in Sri Lanka, Nepal, and beyond as part of the Belt and Road Initiative. Supporting a hospital that cares locally and globally? That’s a win.
Final Thoughts
If your eyes—whether big and blue, brown, green, or hazel—need care in Chengdu, AIDI is worth a visit. It’s not flashy, but it’s reliable, friendly, and efficient. My peepers are feeling fresher, and I left knowing I’ve found a clinic I can trust. Even the most beautiful eyes deserve that.
