Chengdu now has 95 international air routes with the addition of 3 new routes this Spring:

Chengdu-LA, US

On March 15 2017 we saw the new Chengdu to Los Angeles’ maiden flight take off with 270 passengers.

With the opening of the air route, Chengdu became the only city with more than one air link to the US in western China. Another non-stop air service between Chengdu and New York will be launched soon. The Chengdu-LA route is operated by Hainan Airlines with two weekly round-trip services. Each one-way journey takes about 13 hours in the air.

Chengdu-Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Ethiopian Airlines recently announced expansion of its network to Chengdu, the capital city of south-western Sichuan province, marking the fifth Chinese city in the airline’s expanding map. The new flight is due to start on June 5 and will fly between Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, and Chengdu. The flights will operate three times a week by Boeing 787-800, cutting flight time to nine and a half hours, the airline said.

The air route is the second from Chengdu to Africa after the that from Chengdu to Mauritius.

Chengdu-Auckland, New Zealand

Sichuan Airlines is to begin direct flights to New Zealand in June, which they hope will increase trade links between the two nations.

Sichuan Airlines will operate between Auckland and Chengdu three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, using an A330-200 aircraft with direct flights taking 13 hours.
