Profile
Poetry Slam is a spoken word competition where poets perform original poetry without reading from a notebook or phone. Slam poetry is meant to be provocative – whether that means challenging your views, provoking philosophical thoughts, or drawing you into an emotional experience is up to the poet.
The Chengdu Slam consists of three rounds, culminating in ranking the top three poets of the night! Poets move through to the next round based on the scores given by a panel of three judges (ranging from seasoned poets to audience volunteers) plus bonus points awarded according to the audience’s popular vote. You have the power to shift the balance!
NEW! Slam 2.0 will also feature a poetry improvisation challenge open to all. You will have 15 minutes to improvise a poem on a given theme (decided on the night). Anyone brave enough to share their improvised poem on the stage, whether you’re a Slam performer or audience member, will get a free drink!
