On June 13th, 2023, the Consulate General of Türkiye in Chengdu opened to serve a consular district covering Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou and Yunnan. This Consulate General of Turkey, located in the city center (Ping’An Financial Center), is the 3rd established in China.

The Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of Sichuan Provincial Committee of CPC earlier stated that Sichuan’s integration into the Belt and Road Initiative will be aided by the creation of a Turkish consulate general in Chengdu and it will boost collaboration between Sichuan and Turkey in the areas of investment, trade, high technology industry, and people-to-people interactions. Transport connectivity are also planned to be enhanced to deepen economic and trade ties between China and Turkey, the eastern and western gateways of the ancient Silk Road.

China and Turkey celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2021. In 2022, the value of the total import of export between Sichuan and Türkiye reached 8.218 billion yuan, increased by 35.68% year-on-year. The export from Sichuan to Türkiye stood at 7.661 billion yuan, up 36.96%. The import from Türkiye to Sichuan was 557 million yuan, increased by 20.2%.
