Profile
Giant Panda Breeding Research Base 大熊猫繁殖研究基地
The Giant Panda Breeding Research Base is located in the northeast suburbs of Chengdu, around 13 km from downtown. Since opening to the public in 1988, it has grown to include a research center, an open lab, a veterinary hospital, enclosures, and panda playgrounds. This site is one of the world’s most important panda sanctuaries and plays a vital role in protecting giant pandas and other endangered species.
In 2022, the research base expanded its area from 69 to 238 hectares. This growth created more space for China’s national treasures and allowed the construction of panda-friendly pavilions. As a result, the visitor experience has also improved.
Walking tours offer a great way to enjoy the park’s natural scenery while watching the pandas in action. However, because the park is quite large, exploring on foot can take four to five hours.
👉 Tip: The park has two entrances. The West Gate leads to the newer section, while the South Gate connects to the older area. For a smoother visit, we recommend entering through the South Gate.
